Situated above Ilkley on the edge of the famous Ilkley Moor, the whitewashed building of White Wells can be seen. It was here that Squire Middleton created two open-air spa baths to harness the curative effects of the region’s extremely cold mineral water. Even today, if the flags of this house built in 1703 are flying, visitors can take a dip in the icy spa water which made Ilkley famous and was, according to written records from 1710, a cure for tuberculosis.
